Revisiting the Tantura Massacre

The Tantura Massacre in 1948 Palestine by the IDF, was, like many others, denied for decades. When an MA student of Prof. Ilan Pappe ventured to uncover and publish the full story, he was taken to court by some of the perpetrators and forced to recant. The Haifa University retracted his degree, and his health deteriorated. Prof. Ilan Pappe Left Israel shortly afterward and became the director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at Exeter University; Now the whole story is told on a new documentary film,
where the perpetrators admit that they lied. How is it possible to conduct academic research in Israel?

The meeting will be chaired by Prof. Haim Bresheeth-Zabner, SOAS

Ilan Pappe is the Director of the European Center of Palestine Studies. Pappe is the author of 20 books his two most recent books are Liberation, edited with Ramzy Baroud and The Historical Dictionary of Palestine, edited with Johnny Mansour – both came out this month.
